There are tons of beautiful star patterns to choose from, and this Ohio star quilt by Missouri Star is just one of those. If you are looking for a fun and easy-to-make pattern, this is definitely it. To create the star, you will just combine hourglasses and squares together! Read on or watch the video below for full instructions.
Materials
- 3 packs of 58243; squares
- 6 yards of background (includes sashing strips)
- 2 1/2 yards of the border (includes cornerstones)
Instructions
Step 1:
Make the hourglasses. Cut 58243; squares from the background fabric. Get one background square and one printed square. Place them on top of each other and draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Sew 1/48243; on either side of the line. Once done, cut directly on the line and press them open.
Step 2:
Lay your ruler on one of the half-square triangles, corner to corner across the two fabrics, and draw a line. Place it on top of the other half-square triangle but make sure you turn it so that the white nests up with the color. Sew 1/48243; on either side of the line. Cut directly on the line and press them open. Cut them into 48243; squares. Make the 2 packs of 58243; squares into hourglasses.

Step 3:
Using your third pack, make the center blocks. Cut them into 48243; squares, then cut 48243; squares on the background fabric too.
Step 4:
Assemble the blocks. Place the solid square in the center and one hourglass block on each side. Fill the corners with the 48243; background squares. Sew them in rows first with a 1/48243; seam allowance. Once done, sew the rows together, making sure the rows nest up. Press it flat, and you have an Ohio star.

Step 5:
For the sashing in between blocks, you need 2 1/28243; strips. Make sure to cut them the size of your block. For the cornerstones, you need 2 1/28243; squares.
