4 Ideas for Feeding Birds in the Winter

1. Bird feed wreath

Ingredients:

  • cooking spray
  • 2 packets of gelatine
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 6 tablespoons of light corn syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups of flour
  • 8 cups of birdseed

Instructions:

First, spray your ring mold with cooking spray, then set it aside. In a bowl, mix 2 packets of gelatine and warm water. Mix until well combined. Next, add 6 tablespoons of light corn syrup and 1 1/2 cups of flour. Stir then add the bird seeds. Mix well and transfer to the moldPress it firmly, then let it dry for 24 hours. Remove from the mold, insert a ribbon in the middle and tie it to a tree outside.

2. Apple and oranges garland

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple
  • 1 orange
  • organic peanut butter
  • bird seeds

Instructions:

Cut the apples and oranges into round slices. Place the apples in a  baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spread some butter on the bottom part of the apple slices then coat with bird seeds. Using a plastic needle and thick thread, make them into a garland – alternate the apple and orange slices. Once done, hang it on a tree.

3. Hanging bird feeder DIY

Materials:

  • 2 clay saucer
  • 1/8″ glass and tile bit driller
  • 1/8″ braided cable
  • end stop ferrule
  • ferrule
  • hand swager or hammer
  • old orchid pot
  • bird made of cement
  • bird seeds

Instructions:

Drill a hole in the middle of the saucers. Insert the end-stop ferrule into the braided cable. Use a hand swager or hammer to crimp the end top. Insert the other end of the cable into the bottom of the saucer, followed by the pot and the other saucer. Make sure that the top saucer is flipped. Drill a hole in the bird and insert the cable on top of the saucer. Insert the ferrule on the end and make a loop. Crimp it to secure. Add birdseed to the pot and hang it on a tree.

4. Birdseed ornaments and garland

Materials:

  • 2 packets of gelatin
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 6 tablespoons of light corn syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups of flour
  • 8 cups of wild bird seeds
  • dried oranges
  • cranberries
  • popcorn
  • peanut butter
  • twine
  • muffin tray
  • hot glue

Instructions:

Add gelatin and hot water to a bowl. Mix well. Next, add the corn syrup and flour. Mix until well combined. After that, add the bird seeds and stir. Fill the cupcake or muffin tray halfway with the mixture. Make a loop with the twine and press them into each cup. Fill again with the mixture. Press to flatten. Let them sit overnight. Make a garland with dried oranges, cranberries, and popcorn. Spread some peanut butter on the pine cones, then roll it around the bird seeds. Hot glue a loop of twine to the top of the pine cones. Hang all of them on a tree outside.
